The group have recently been nominated for the Kings award
Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, was pleased to meet volunteers of the Brighter Uckfield group to congratulate them on their recent nomination for The King’s Award.
Brighter Uckfield is one of thirteen East Sussex charities that have been put forward for The King’s Award, which is the UK’s highest award for outstanding voluntary services. They are a growing group of volunteers dedicated to improving the look and feel of Uckfield by not only keeping it clean and litter free, but also by clearing ignored patches of land, painting neglected buildings, planting bulbs and flower displays, and cleaning road signs.
Brighter Uckfield meet on Sundays at 9am in the Waitrose car park. To find out more, join the group, or to report an area that needs attention, please visit www.brighteruckfield.com.
The nominations for The King’s Award will now be assessed before a shortlist is made for The King’s adjudication team. Successful charities will be announced later in the year.
Nusrat Ghani said: “Litter is a blight on the beautiful Wealden countryside, and I know it is an issue of concern for many local residents. I am delighted that Brighter Uckfield have been nominated for The King’s Award, which is the UK’s highest award for outstanding voluntary services. It was a pleasure to meet the exceptional volunteers who dedicate their free time to making Uckfield cleaner and brighter, and thank them in person. It would be fantastic if their efforts were recognised by this prestigious award and I wish them all the very best for the next stages of the process.”
