Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, has welcomed news that Sussex Police were named the best force in the country for answering 999 calls.
In nationally published figures for January 2024, Sussex Police answered 95.7% of calls in under 10 seconds, ranking as best force in the country. They also ranked highest in December, with 93.9% calls answered.
Nusrat also welcomes news that Sussex Police have invested in new technology within the control room which is helping to distribute calls in a more automated way, allowing them to answer 999 calls even quicker than before.
Sussex Police are also hiring 999 and 101 contact handlers, and they encourage those interested to find out more via their website.
Nusrat Ghani said:
“It is a fantastic achievement for Sussex Police that Wealden residents in an emergency have a response time that's the best in the country. I am in regular contact with Sussex Police to discuss individual cases, and I am aware that rural crime incidents remain an area of concern especially for residents near the Kent border. I am hugely grateful for Sussex Police and their commitment to tackling rural crime, and the recent investments they have made to their systems have led to improved response times. We can build on these recent successes, so I will continue to campaign for additional crime prevention resources for Wealden.”
