Three people were taken to hospital following a head-on crash between a vehicle and a police car.
Emergency services responded to the incident in Pevensey Bay Road, Eastbourne, at 18:40 BST on Thursday.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said the driver of the Suzuki Wagon R and two police officers in the police vehicle were taken to hospital with injuries.
"The driver remains in hospital undergoing medical treatment while the officers have since been discharged,
