Prom in the Park Summer Event and Fundraiser for St Wilfrid’s Hospice

Hailsham Town Council is pleased to unveil plans for a new summer community event, Prom in the Park, which will take place on Sunday 7th June from 3pm to 6pm at the Western Road Recreation Ground.

Residents are encouraged to mark the date in their diaries and bring their own picnics, blankets and chairs to enjoy an afternoon of entertainment in a relaxed outdoor setting. Jacket potatoes and refreshments will also be available for those not bringing picnics with them, provided by Ye Olde Spud Shoppe.

The event will feature a live performance from the Warbleton Brass Band, whose repertoire includes both classic and contemporary pieces sure to appeal to audiences of all ages.

In addition to the music, children will be entertained with a variety of activities, including close-up magic, balloon modelling and a traditional Punch and Judy show, courtesy of Jonathan Cann.

A charity collection will take place at the end of the afternoon in support of St Wilfrid’s Hospice, helping to raise funds for this important local cause.

Prom in the Park reflects the Town Council’s continued commitment to providing a varied programme of activities for the community. By hosting inclusive outdoor events, the Council aims to promote community wellbeing, encourage residents to make the most of public spaces and support local charities. Such gatherings not only provide entertainment but also help strengthen Hailsham’s sense of identity, offering residents a chance to connect, share experiences and enjoy the town’s vibrant community spirit.

Cllr Anne Marie Ricketts, Chair of the Communities Committee, said: “Prom in the Park is a fantastic new addition to our events programme and a great opportunity for residents of all ages to come together. With live music, family-friendly entertainment and fundraising for a much-valued local hospice, we hope this event will quickly become a highlight of the summer.”

Town Councillor Mary Laxton said: “This event highlights our commitment to delivering inclusive and engaging activities for the community. It will be wonderful to see families enjoying the Recreation Ground, sharing live music, entertainment and a real sense of togetherness, while also supporting St Wilfrid’s Hospice.”

“Hailsham Town Council hopes that Prom in the Park will become a cherished summer tradition, bringing together people from across the town in a welcoming and festive environment. By combining music, entertainment, community spirit, and charitable support, the event aims to create lasting memories for all attendees and highlight the town’s dedication to vibrant, inclusive community life.”

“We all know someone that has needed the services offered by St Wilfrid’s Hospice and that’s one of the reasons why we are organising this event to raise funds to support the hospice.”
