In the weekend’s local football, AFC Uckfield Town’s recent run of good form came to an end, as they lost four-nil at high-flying Steyning Town.
There was defeat too for Crowborough Athletic, who went down three-two at home to Hassocks.
Also in the Southern Combination League, table-topping Jarvis Brook thrashed Brighton Electricity seven-two.
In the Mid Sussex League, there was another good win for Ridgewood, who beat Sovereign Saints two-nil at the Uckfield All-weather pitch. Meanwhile, Uckfield United shared the points in a four-all draw with AFC Ringmer’s third team. Barcombe beat Newick four-two, while Plumpton trounced Hurstpierpoint Reserves six-nil. But Rotherfield crashed to a seven-nil defeat at Lindfield.
Elsewhere, in cup competitions, there were wins for Nutley and Maresfield, and defeat for Fletching.
In the Isthmian Premier Division, Lewes returned to winning ways with an excellent four-two victory at third-placed Enfield Town.
Meanwhile, Lewes’s ladies team conceded a stoppage time winner in a two-one defeat at Durham. Brighton’s ladies team were also beaten – they lost four-nil at Manchester United.
In local rugby, there was a superb win for Uckfield, who defeated the previously unbeaten Haywards Heath by 15 points to seven at Hempstead Fields. But Crowborough lost to the Old Alleynians by 37 points to ten.
Finally, for local horse racing fans, there’s a meeting at Plumpton this afternoon, with the first race due off at ten past two.
