What a weekend in local sport!
On the opening weekend of the new Sussex Cricket League season, Uckfield Anderida were beaten by St Peters of Brighton’s third team by eight wickets. Crowborough lost by four wickets to Linden Park’s third eleven, there was defeat too for Buxted Park, who were bowled out for just 59 to lose by 215 runs at Rye.
There were wins for Barcombe, Isfield, Rotherfield, Nutley and Blackboys. But Newick suffered a narrow defeat by two runs at Lewes Priory.
After dominating much of the opening three days of their Championship match with Middlesex at Hove, Sussex’s county team went down to a disappointing defeat by seven wickets, as the visitors successfully chased down a target of 370 on yesterday’s final day with 19 balls to spare.
In football, it was a memorable weekend for Brighton and Hove Albion, as they stunned Manchester United with a four-nil defeat at the Amex Stadium.
Brighton’s ladies team drew their final match of the Women’s Super League yesterday, as they shared the points in a one-all draw with Everton.
