A look at the sporting action from across the weekend
Lewes put in a commanding performance against promotion hopefuls Cray Valley PM, beating the fourth placed side 4-1 at the Dripping Pan, after two goals in the opening ten minutes set The Rooks up for their dominant result.
Elsewhere, Crowborough Athletic once again dug deep to claim a vital victory, as they beat playoff contenders Crawley Down Gatwick 1-0 to keep themselves in second, while AFC Uckfield Town recovered from an early conceded goal to beat Copthorne 3-1, as Jarvis Brook lost 2-0 away to TD Shipley.
In the Mid Sussex Leagues, Rotherfield were defeated 2-0 by Holland Sports, while Ridgewood exited the Montgomery Cup semi finals after their 3-1 loss against Oxted & District, as Barcombe fell to a 3-1 defeat versus second in their league Wivelsfield Green.
Meanwhile, Buxted are into the Stratford Cup Final after beating Dormansland Rockets 3-0, with Plumpton Athletic losing 3-1 away to Ansty FC 2nd’s.
Lastly in the men’s, Newick secured three vital points in their title fight by beating Ditchling 2-0 as they extended their lead up to three points, while Hartfield increased the lead in their up to eight after thrashing Marle Park Wanderers 5-1.
And in women’s football, Lewes earned a convincing 3-0 victory against Billericay Town to end their run of four straight draws, while AFC Uckfield Town secured a 3-1 win in their game against Seaford Town as they now move into third.
Over to the men’s rugby, Crowborough earned a hard fought 22-21 win against Becechamian to stay fourth in the table, while Heathfield & Waldron were defeated 27-7 by league leaders Ashford 2nd’s, as Uckfield were awarded a walkover against Brighton 2nd’s.
Finally in the women’s rugby on Sunday, Heathfield & Waldron ended their season on a real high as they comfortably dispatched bottom of the league Pulborough 81-0, as they finish in second place.
