Is Burger King coming to Crowborough?

Local residents have been left in the dark as to whether a major fast food retailer will continue its efforts to open a new store in Crowborough.

The planning application for a new Burger King at the Morrisons petrol station in Crowborough was withdrawn on October 31, 2025, following significant opposition from local residents and the Town Council.

The current situation is that the application has been Withdrawn: The specific planning application (WD/2025/1611/F) for the Burger King, submitted by Motor Fuel Group, is no longer under consideration by Wealden District Council.

The proposed development faced strong opposition, primarily from Crowborough Town Council and local residents, based on several concerns:

  • Highway Safety: Concerns were raised about "over-intensification" of the site and the potential for additional traffic to worsen existing safety issues at a busy junction.
  • Noise and Litter: Residents and the nearby Heather View Care Home expressed worries about increased noise, litter, and anti-social behaviour.
  • Impact on Local Business: The Town Council argued there was no demonstrated need for another takeaway and that it would create "unfair competition" for existing independent businesses.
  • Inadequate Facilities: Objections also mentioned inadequate parking and unsafe forecourt access
  • It is currently unclear whether Burger King or the Motor Fuel Group plans to submit a revised or fresh application for the site. When contacted by local news outlets in January 2026, Burger King declined to comment on its future intentions for the location.
