The Air Quality Action Plan (AQAP) highlights a number of actions the council will be taking to better air quality in Lewes between 2025- 2029.
Air pollution is highly dangerous due to its links with diseases such as cancer, heart disease and asthma. The cost of air pollution in England to health services could reach between £5.3 and 18.6 billion between 2018 and 2035 making it an important issue to tackle. As such Lewes District Council has committed to the AQAP to help reduce exposure within Lewes.
The objectives of the plan come under the following themes:
1. Alternatives to private vehicle use
2. Promoting travel alternatives
3. Public information
4. Transport planning and infrastructure
5. Traffic management
