Mims Davies MP Encourages Residents to Support their Local Pub this January

Mims is a staunch supporter of our local pubs as they bring the community together, help our local economy and offer local resident’s jobs - to name a few.

'Dry January' sees a huge decrease in residents joining their local pub, but Mims is encouraging residents to still go and see their incredible local pubs with their soft drinks, amazing food, and abundance of tasty zero-alcohol drinks - our pubs are still a must go this January!

Despite Labour Government MPs standing on a manifesto pledging to avoid raising tax on “working people”, at the Autumn Budget 2024, the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, announced £40 billion of tax increases, the largest in a generation. These tax rises included imposing a £25 billion tax on working people by increasing employers’ National Insurance.

During 2025, Mims joined numerous events supporting pubs and the hospitality sector, including the Beer Bottle event in Parliament where Mims has the great opportunity to meet their members including Budweiser, Greene King, Heineken, Punch Pubs and more.

Mims spoke with the team to learn more about the beer and pub sector in her constituency of East Grinstead, Uckfield, and the villages and how she as the local MP can further provide her support,

Mims is proud of the former Government's record of supporting pubs and will continue to urge Ministers to address the challenges faced by the hospitality sector.

I’ve been speaking to pub landlords recently and they’re reiterating just how difficult it is for them to keep going with NI increases, extra business rates, no go zones for smokers, and more from the Government.

If you can, please do go out and #support your local pub, they need all the help we can give them, and I will continue supporting and helping both locally and in Parliament.
