he fourth annual Hailsham Community Run will return on Sunday 17th May 2026, and registration is now open for runners, joggers and walkers of all ages and abilities. Organisers are calling on local sports clubs, workplaces, community groups and groups of friends to sign up as teams and take part together in what is fast becoming one of East Sussex’s most anticipated community sporting events.
With strong backing from sponsors, local businesses and Hailsham Town Council, this year’s event is set to be bigger, more inclusive and more community-driven than ever before. Whether it’s colleagues entering a corporate team, a football or cricket club taking on a new challenge, or a group of neighbours walking the 1-mile route together, the event offers a distance and pace for everyone.
Participants are encouraged to register early to secure their place. Team entries from sports clubs, gyms, offices and community organisations are particularly welcomed, making the day not just a run, but a shared celebration of community spirit. Registration is available online at: https://register.enthuse.com/ps/event/HailshamCommunityRun2026/.
Following the success of previous years, Hailsham Town Council has once again confirmed its support with a £6,000 contribution towards essential costs, including participant medals, Mobiloo facilities, signage and breakfasts for marshalling volunteers.
A wide range of local businesses are also proudly supporting the event. Race distance sponsors include Alinker (1-mile race), Diplocks Cafe & Pizza (3k race), The Royal Indian (5k race) and Hailsham Community Run (10k race).
Additional sponsors include Taylor Wimpey, PXL Wave Graphics, Stevens & Carter, Roland Dunn Sales & Lettings, Lightning Fibre, Elite Medical, Colston, The White Hart, The Kings Head, Inner Sole Reflexology and the Hailsham & District Chamber of Commerce.
The event is being organised by Mary Laxton (Project Lead), Colin Mitchell and Karen Nicholls, working closely with Sports Systems Ltd, who provide technical and operational expertise to ensure a safe, professional and enjoyable experience for all.
Inclusivity at the Heart of the Community Run
Inclusivity and accessibility remain central to the Hailsham Community Run. Routes are designed to accommodate all ages and abilities — from families with young children and first-time participants, to experienced athletes and those with additional needs. The event is also an ideal opportunity for clubs and workplaces to promote wellbeing by entering group teams and supporting one another on the day.
Karen Nicholls, Inclusivity Lead, said: “We want everyone to feel welcome at the Community Run. Whether you’re walking the 1-mile with your children, running a personal best or taking part with a disability or health condition, you’ll be fully supported. This event is as much about community as it is about running.”
Project Lead Mary Laxton added: “Inclusivity and accessibility are at the core of everything we do. Our routes are wheelchair-friendly, and we continually review facilities to ensure participants of all abilities can take part fully. Strong sponsorship and support from the Town Council and local businesses make this possible, helping us create a safe, enjoyable and inclusive event for the whole community.”
Colin Mitchell, project co-organiser, said: “The Hailsham Community Run is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when local organisations, businesses and volunteers come together. Each year the event grows in both numbers and spirit, and we’re proud to deliver something that brings the whole community together in such a positive and inclusive way.”
Community Involvement and Team Opportunities
Organisers are urging local schools, charities, sports clubs, gym members and businesses to sign up teams, challenge rival departments, or use the event as a fundraising opportunity. Entering as a group not only builds team spirit but helps showcase the strength and unity of the local community.
Volunteers are also vital to the event’s success, with opportunities available for marshalling and event-day support.
A limited number of sponsorship packages remain available for businesses wishing to be part of the Hailsham Community Run’s continued growth. For sponsorship enquiries, please contact Mary Laxton on 07723 444209 or email marylaxton70@gmail.com.
