Sussex Police arrested a 30-year-old man on 30 January 2026, following a 40-mile tactical pursuit of a stolen Asda delivery van.
Incident Details
- Initial Report: Officers were called to Sovereign Harbour Retail Park on Pevensey Bay Road, Eastbourne, at approximately 6:20 am after reports of the theft.
- The Pursuit: Police engaged in a tactical pursuit that lasted roughly 40 miles across Sussex.
- Resolution: The vehicle was safely stopped in The Fairway, Newhaven, with witnesses reporting at least five police cars involved in the final stop.
Arrest and Charges
The suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of several offences, including:
- Theft of a motor vehicle
- Dangerous driving
- Failing to stop for police
- Driving while over the legal drug limit
- Driving without a valid licence
According to reports the man remained in custody as of 3 February 2026 while investigations continued.
