Some interesting results all round
Crowborough Athletic had to settle for a point from a two-all draw at Canterbury in the Southern Counties East Football League.
Crowborough had led two-nil at half-time, but the home side rallied with two goals early in the second half, before Crowborough were reduced to ten men.
AFC Uckfield Town’s first team were without a game, but their Reserve team romped to a seven-two win at neighbours Buxted. Elsewhere in the Mid Sussex League, Rotherfield drew one-all at AFC Southwick. Ridgewood lost two-one at league champions Reigate Priory, while Uckfield United continued their title challenge with an emphatic five-nil victory at Ditchling Reserves.
In cup games, Maresfield and Plumpton Athletic both lost their matches three-nil. In Division Two of the Southern Combination League, Jarvis Brook drew nil-nil at Charlwood.
Lewes’s hopes of a play-off place in the Isthmian Premier Division suffered a setback with a three-two home defeat by Wingate and Finchley.
Another disappointing result for Brighton and Hove Albion, they could only draw nil-nil with bottom-of-the-table Norwich at the Amex Stadium.
In women’s football, Lewes ladies lost two-nil at home to Sheffield United, and there was defeat also for Brighton ladies, who went down by the only goal against Manchester United.
In local rugby, Uckfield crashed to a 57 points to 7 defeat at East Grinstead in the Sussex Division One Cup final, while Crowborough were beaten 26-17 at Deal.
