On Thursday, 26 March 2026, Wealden District Council's Majors Planning Committee is scheduled to consider three separate housing proposals that total 205 new homes in the Uckfield area.
Council planning officers have recommended all three applications for approval, concluding that the benefits of new housing outweigh potential harms to the landscape.
The Three Proposed Developments:-
Ridgewood Place:- A proposal by Taylor Wimpey to build 100 homes on land east of Seghers Place, located on the southern edge of Uckfield.
Coopers Green:- An outline application for up to 75 homes on land north of Buxted Road. This scheme is being jointly submitted by Robin Nathan and Catesby Strategic Land Limited.
Saxon Court:- An application by Kitewood Estates Limited to demolish the former Saxon Court care home and replace it with 30 homes.
Key Concerns and Objections:-
The proposals have faced significant local opposition, particularly regarding the Coopers Green site, which received 67 formal objections. Primary concerns raised by residents and objectors include:-
- Infrastructure Pressure: Worries that the scale of development will overwhelm local services and road networks.
- Environmental Impact: Potential harm to the Ashdown Forest and the natural beauty of the High Weald National Landscape.Urbanisation: Concerns about the loss of agricultural land and the "coalescence" (merging) of separate local settlements.
The Wealden District Council Majors Planning Committee will make the final decision on these applications during their meeting.
