Eastbourne care home rated 'requires improvement' by CQC following 'safety concerns'

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) recently rated Prideaux House in Eastbourne as "Requires Improvement" following an inspection that identified several safety and management concerns.

This rating, published in April 2026, follows reports of similar ratings for other local facilities like Alma Lodge and Grange House earlier this year.

Key Concerns at Prideaux House:-

Inspectors highlighted several areas where the home failed to meet expected standards:

  • Safety Training: Staff had not received specific training for supporting residents living with catheters.
  • Inadequate Governance: Management and auditing processes were not robust enough to identify or learn from errors.
  • Quality of Care: High staff turnover meant many workers did not know residents well, and people were not consistently treated with "kindness and compassion".
  • Communication Gaps: There were few communication aids for residents with dementia, and care plans lacked personal histories or preferences.

Positive Feedback and Strengths

Despite these failings, the Prideaux House CQC report noted some positive observations:

  • Medication Management: Residents generally received their medicines in a timely manner.
  • Environment: Relatives praised the general cleanliness and décor of the facility.
  • Family Communication: Relatives felt that communication with the registered manager was positive and that their loved ones were safe.
