Families are invited to enjoy a fun and educational day out this Easter as Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare brings back its popular Family Learning Days.
Taking place on Wednesday 1 April, Thursday 2 April, Wednesday 8 April and Thursday 9 April, from 10am to 4pm, the free events offer visitors the chance to learn more about animals while exploring the beautiful Raystede site.
Children and adults alike can take part in Raystede’s Easter Egg Hunt with a Twist. Eggs have been “hidden” around the grounds by the animals, and families will follow clues to uncover not only the eggs but also discover which animals have been responsible.
As visitors explore the trail, they will learn fascinating facts about the many different animals Raystede cares for and gain a better understanding of their behaviour, needs and personalities.
The Yurt Garden will host interactive learning activities where families can discover more about their favourite animals by playing the ‘Which Animal Game?’ Visitors will be challenged to match behaviours with animals and find out:
- Which animals enjoy sunbathing?
- Which animals like solving puzzles?
Alongside the trail, families can enjoy creative activities in the craft room, watch animal films in the on-site cinema, and take away educational resources to help continue the learning at home.
According to research from Raystede, 40% of children in Sussex are living with a dog and 29% are living with a cat, therefore events like the charity’s Family Learning Days aim to help young people better understand how to care for animals responsibly and recognise their welfare needs.
Gemma Price, Head of Prevention and Education at Raystede said: ““Easter is a wonderful time for families to get outside, explore and learn together. Our Family Learning Days offer a fun and engaging way to discover more about the animals we care for and the welfare needs they have.
“Understanding responsible pet ownership is incredibly important, particularly as we continue to see growing numbers of animals needing our help. These events help families learn how to care for the pets they already share their homes with, or those they may be thinking about adopting in the future.”
Raystede’s Family Learning Days are free to attend, but online booking is essential as the events are extremely popular. For more information and to book, visit www.raystede.org/family-learning-days
