The new Horam Station Hub opens for residents to enjoy

Today marks an important milestone for the Cuckoo Trail, as Wealden District Council celebrate the opening of the new Horam Station Hub.

The Horam Hub is part of a wider programme of improvements along the Cuckoo Trail, which is owned by Wealden District Council. The improvements are all focused on making the trail easier to use, more welcoming, and more enjoyable.

The refreshment kiosk, Cadence Clubhouse Horam, is operated by Cadence Cycle Club and offers toilets, water refill stations, bike pumps, and repair tools to support cyclists, while also providing a welcoming space for the wider community to meet, eat, relax, and enjoy the outdoors.

Guided by the Cuckoo Trail Masterplan, this work has taken a practical, community first approach, combining improvements on the ground with creative, cultural and environmental projects.

The former railway station platform at Horam has now been brought back to life as a welcoming community space for everyone to use. With improved surroundings, much needed facilities and restored historic features, it now celebrates the sites railway heritage.

The creation of this new hub has been made possible through investment from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), alongside support from key partners and local groups who have helped shape the project.

UKSPF funding has also supported a wide range of improvements along the Cuckoo Trail including enhanced accessibility, environmental and biodiversity improvements, health and wellbeing initiatives, creative and heritage projects and the celebration of local communities and history.

Councillor Kelvin Williams, Alliance for Wealden (Liberal Democrat) and lead councillor for Public Health and Asset Management, said, “I am pleased that the Horam Hub has now opened to the public. It strengthens the Cuckoo Trail’s role as a shared community asset, supporting healthier lifestyles, celebrating local creativity and heritage, and creating a welcoming space where people can come together. The design of the hub has been carefully planned to make sure that the history and the character of the railways has been kept.  This is a space for cyclists, walkers, runners, families and friends to enjoy.”
