It has revealed the number of D.I.Y injuries people in the area sustained from 2021 to 2023.
East Sussex NHS trust reported a total of 2,691 injuries between 2021 and 2023. Although injuries of this type have increased year on year, the rise has escalated dramatically as there were only 97 recorded in 2021. By 2023 this had risen to 1471 which is a 1419% increase in the rate of D.I.Y injuries in the area.

1,732 of the injuries were reported by males and 887 by females, meaning men were more than twice as likely to be injured during home repairs or improvements.

The 25-49 year old age group saw the highest number of incidents with 1059 of the 2,691 cases falling into this bracket, meaning that category made up almost one third of the total reported injuries at 39.25%.

Joshua Valente of Coral Windows commented on the findings:
“We know how difficult it can be to make improvements to your home, and it’s no surprise to see that people trying to do it themselves can end up with injuries.
“As the cost of living has risen over the past few years, and people have had less money to spend, the increase in the number of injuries overall, suggests that more people are trying to save some money when it comes to maintaining and improving their properties.
“A large concern however is that despite the large rise in the amount of cases, this data only covers a single NHS trust. If the same issue is replicated amongst the other trusts in the country, it presents another strain on an already stretched NHS.”
