In the House of Commons yesterday (2 March), Eastbourne’s MP Josh Babarinde raised the case of a seriously ill local constituent who has been stranded in hospital in Dubai since Saturday.
23 year old Cameron was travelling home from India when he became seriously unwell during a planned stopover in Dubai.
During Cameron’s short stopover, the airspace closed as a result of escalating conflict. This has prevented travel to and from the region.
Cameron’s medical bills are currently costing around £1,000 per day, which he and his family have been required to pay upfront, with insurance only able to reimburse costs once he is discharged.
Raising the case directly with the Prime Minister, Mr Babarinde called for the Prime Minister to outline his evacuation plan and to ensure that the Government prioritises those who are clinically vulnerable for evacuation, where it is medically safe to do so.
Mr Babarinde also asked the Prime Minister to arrange a meeting with him and Cameron’s family to ensure he gets the treatment he needs and gets home safely.
In reply, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said:
“I’ll make sure that we do whatever we can to assist Cameron and his family”
Commenting, Josh Babarinde MP said:
“After learning that Eastbourne lad Cameron was stranded in a Dubai hospital, I pledged to his mum that I would do everything possible to get him safe.
That started with escalating this directly to the Prime Minister in the House of Commons today, and I’m pleased that he has committed to supporting us.
My team and I will continue to work with the family and relevant authorities to support Cameron’s safe return home”.
