Hailsham Town Football Club secured planning permission on 20 April 2026 to build a new clubhouse and upgraded spectator facilities at their home ground.
Planned Upgrades at The Beaconsfield:-
The development at the Western Road ground includes the following new structures to replace existing facilities that were previously deemed unsafe and demolished:
- New Clubhouse: A primary building of approximately 147 square metres containing modern changing rooms for players and officials, spectator toilets, and a new kitchen with a serving hatch for refreshments.
- Stadium Infrastructure: Installation of a new entrance and turnstile structure, a replacement "standing stand", and the repositioning of the existing "sitting stand".
- All-Weather Pitch: Work is also underway to convert the current grass playing field into a 3G all-weather pitch to allow for year-round use.
Funding and Community Impact:-
- Financial Support: Hailsham Town Council allocated £70,000 in match-funding from Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funds to support the project.
- Public Access: The new spectator toilets will be accessible to general users of the Western Road Recreation Ground when the club is not using them.
- Wider Facilities: Separately, the Wealden Community Sports Hub on the outskirts of Hailsham recently completed two FIFA-quality 3G pitches as part of a broader £3.5m regional investment
