A new chair has been appointed at Wealden District Council following the resignation of Councillor Christina Coleman.
At a Full Council meeting on Thursday 8 February, Green Party councillor, Councillor Jessika Hulbert, who represents the Withyham ward, was elected to replace Councillor Coleman, who announced her resignation as chair of Wealden District Council last month.
Councillor Coleman stood down from her chair duties as she is preparing to run as a candidate in the next general election.
The new chair of Wealden District Council, Councillor Hulbert, said, “I am keen to do my best in the role of chair and to provide leadership with kindness and equity. Alongside my council and ward duties, I will strive to foster strong relationships with communities in the district and the businesses that thrive within it, as well as to support and champion those causes that will benefit from more attention.”
The chair of the council is expected to attend many formal and informal functions including royal and state visits, civic ceremonies and functions, charity and community events.
Other functions of the politically neutral role is to chair Full Council meetings and act as an ambassador to promote the council’s name at home and elsewhere.
The new chair will be announcing her chosen charities during her term of office soon.
