Following a successful campaign earlier this year, Josh Babarinde, the Member of Parliament for Eastbourne, has announced that the much-loved attraction will be turned on this Friday, ready for families to enjoy throughout the summer.
Local families have described it as a “lifesaver”.
The Eastbourne MP secured £25,000 funding from Southern Water to bring Eastbourne's Splash Pad back into use.
Official Opening
- Date: Friday, 3rd July
- Time: 4.30 pm
- Location: Eastbourne Splash Pad, Princes Park, Eastbourne BN22 7LL
Why wasn’t it open sooner?
Many residents have understandably been asking why it hasn't been open already, particularly with the warmer weather we've enjoyed over the last month.
The Splash Pad had originally been due to reopen last month. Unfortunately, a failure of the control panel meant essential repairs were needed before it could be brought back into full operation. In addition to these repairs, the equipment also had to undergo comprehensive safety checks and water quality testing before it was safe to reopen.
In a statement, Mr Babarinde said:
“I'm delighted to announce that Eastbourne's Splash Pad will be officially switched on this Friday, ready for families to enjoy throughout the summer”.
While I would, of course, have loved to have seen it open sooner, I'm pleased that the time was taken to ensure everything is safe for children to now enjoy.
“Please do join me on Friday for the official re-opening”.
Eastbourne Borough Council Leader Stephen Holt said:
“Delighted that, working with our MP and partners, Eastbourne Borough Council has been able to reopen the splash pad.
I know this will bring a lot of joy to many people, and I am determined to continue to work with all our partners to ensure it can remain open long into the future.”
